NEAC Student-Athlete Spotlight: Abby Hess, Keuka College

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - Each week throughout the fall semester, the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) will highlight student-athletes from one of the conference's member institutions through a brief Q & A. Female student-athletes will be featured each Thursday followed by a male student-athlete spotlight each Friday. Today, we catch up with Abby Hess from Keuka College.

Name: Abby Hess
Sport(s):
Women's Basketball
Hometown: Cortland, N.Y.

What is your current class year and major?

I am a senior majoring in Occupational Therapy.

Why did you choose to attend Keuka College?

I chose Keuka College for its field periods, the amazing OT program, basketball and the gorgeous view of the lake!

What does it mean to you to be a member of the Keuka College women's basketball team?

It means that we are a close knit family that is always there to support each other.

If you could pick one favorite moment at Keuka College, what would it be?

The best moment would be winning the NEAC Championship and on our way home we were escorted back by fire trucks as we went back to the college. Everyone was outside cheering in front of our gym and it was the best feeling in the world.

What are your career aspirations or future goals?

I want to be an Occupational Therapist that works with people who have developmental disabilities and in the far future I would like to become a traveling OT as well.

Are you involved in additional activities, clubs, etc. on campus outside of athletics?

I am a part of the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS).

Give us three words that best describe being a Division III student-athlete.

Committed, Resilient, Strong

What is your pregame routine? Any superstitions?

My pregame routine consists of listening to upbeat music as loud as it can be to zone into the game. I have to almost always have my hair straight in a high ponytail because I feel like it makes me faster.

Finally, what makes you #NEACStrong?

What makes me #NEACStrong is not letting my body image define me and leaving everything I have left on the court at the end of each game or practice. Whether it be fighting for the loose balls or running up and down the court as fast as I can for every offensive or defensive play. Never giving up on myself and being confident in the best person I can be on and off the court.
