"The weather was horrible but Tom did a great job of staying ahead of batters and we played some super defense behind him," said Coach Makarowski. "This was an important win on a number of levels for us but to start the conference season off with a no-hitter and a sweep is extremely important." On the mound Wiener was in total command of his pitches and the opposition facing only 22 hitters in the seven inning contest. Wiener stuck out eight batters while walking only one. But Wiener's dominance over the Spartans was not limited to the pitcher's mound. Leading 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning the Fighting Tigers secured the victory when Matt Greene ripped a lead-off double. Tom Wiener showed his offensive skill as he blasted a home run to give Cobleskill a 3-0 lead which they would later increase to 4-0 during the frame. Wiener finished the game going 1-for-3 at the plate with a home run and a pair of RBI while Greene was 2-for-2 on the day with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Wiener was selected as Baseball Student-Athlete of the Week for the NEAC and also received ECAC Upstate Pitcher of the Week. |

Riding a nine game losing streak going into his program's first ever NEAC opening season doubleheader this weekend, SUNY Cobleskill Head Baseball Coach Bill Makarowski called upon his sophomore ace right-hander Tom Wiener, to end the streak and get the Fighting Tigers off to a fast start in the NEAC league race. What followed was a game for the ages as Wiener opened the team's new conference affiliation in style pitching a no-hitter against the D'Youville College Spartans as the Orange & Black posted a 4-0 win at Fighting Tiger Field Sunday afternoon.
