Morrisville State Repeats as NEAC Women's Volleyball Champions

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The Morrisville State women’s volleyball team its second sweep of the weekend, defeating Lancaster Bible to win its second-consecutive North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Women’s Volleyball Championship in front of a loud home crowd on Sunday afternoon.

Morrisville State commanded the first two sets with 25-15 and 25-17 wins, respectively. Lancaster Bible showed fight in the third set, down by as many as eight points before eventually making it a 21-20 game in favor of the Mustangs. The Chargers came up just short though as Morrisville State went on to take the third set, 25-21, and claim in the conference crown.

Megyan Merrill (Millport, N.Y.) recorded a match-high 21 kills and was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player after totaling 36 kills on the weekend. Mustangs’ setter Kim Dunkleman (Williamsville, N.Y.) led all players with 29 assists while Sam Wolf (Liverpool, N.Y.) finished with 14 digs. As a team, the Mustangs posted a .333 hitting percentage in Sunday’s championship match.

Lancaster Bible was led by senior Hannah Gipe (Palatka, Fla.) with nine kills and junior setter Allison Shuey (Lebanon, Pa.) with 23 assists. Defensively, Hannah Thompson (Morgantown, Pa.) had 13 digs. The Chargers finish the year with the best record in program history at 21-9 overall.

Morrisville State wraps up the weekend with a 25-6 overall record. The Mustangs will await their next opponent in the 2018 NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Tournament with the matchups announced on Monday on the NCAA Selection Show, scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
