Nelson, Campbell Named NEAC Basketball Student-Athletes of the Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its Student-Athlete of the Week selections in men’s and women’s basketball for the week ending Jan. 13. This week’s honorees include student-athletes from SUNY Cobleskill and Morrisville State.                                                              

Dashown Nelson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) from SUNY Cobleskill has been named NEAC Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after averaging 23.8 points per game last week. Nelson helped the Fighting Tigers go 2-2 after totaling 95 points, which included 79 points in conference play. The senior guard put up 28 and 20 points in games against Morrisville State and Gallaudet, respectively. Nelson closed out the week by recording a double-double of 31 points and 10 rebounds in an 85-69 win at Lancaster Bible. In four games, he had 28 rebounds, five assists, seven steals and four blocks while shooting 55.2 percent from the field.

Alexis Campbell (Buffalo, N.Y.) from Morrisville State has been selected as the NEAC Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week after scoring 94 points in a 3-1 week for the Mustangs. The sophomore point guard began the week with 12 points in a non-conference win at SUNY Canton. In an 86-79 win at SUNY Cobleskill, Campbell added a career-high 39 points and shot 78.6 percent from the floor. She also combined for 43 points over the weekend against the College of Saint Elizabeth and Penn State Abington. Campbell finished the week with a 48.3 field-goal percentage and an average of 23.5 points per game. She also had 15 rebounds, 17 assists, seven steals and one block.


The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has 12 NCAA Division III member institutions which include: Cazenovia College, College of Saint Elizabeth, Gallaudet University, Keuka College, Lancaster Bible College, Pennsylvania College of Technology, Pennsylvania State University – Abington, Pennsylvania State University – Berks, SUNY Cobleskill, Morrisville State, SUNY Polytechnic Institute, and Wells College.
