Canty, Campbell Named NEAC Basketball Players of the Week

LATHAM, N.Y. – Caleb Canty of SUNY Poly and Alexis Campbell of Morrisville State collect this week’s North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) men’s and women’s basketball Players of the Week. 

Caleb Canty (Hudson, N.Y.) is named Player of the Week for the first time after leading the Wildcats to a 2-0 NEAC week. 

The 5-foot-11 guard was huge in SUNY Poly’s historic 115-110 four-overtime victory at Keuka last Wednesday when he tallied 27 of his game-high 38 points in the overtime periods. The junior followed that up with a 20-point, 12 assist double-double in a 91-82 win over Penn College this past Saturday.

Canty averaged 29 points, 6.5 assists, three rebounds and 2.5 steals in 47.5 minutes per game. For the week, he also made 25 of 29 from the free throw line.  

Alexis Campbell (Buffalo, N.Y.) collects her first weekly honor from the NEAC. 

The junior averaged 31 points per game across two contests for the Mustangs this, both league games.  The 5-foot-1 guard began the week with a 36-point performance as she 75% from the floor and hit 6-of-8 from beyond the arc.  Campbell also shot 6-of-6 from the charity stripe, adding two assists, three rebounds and three steals in 27 minutes of play in a win at SUNY Cobleskill this past Wednesday.  

Campbell scored 26 points against Gallaudet, hitting 50% from the floor including 4-of-9 from 3point range.  She added seven rebounds and an assist. For the week, Campbell shot 60% from the floor, 58.8% from beyond the arc and made 100% of her free throws.  She also averaged five rebounds. 1.5 assists and two steals per contest.
