Costello & Shepard Named NEAC Women's Volleyball Players of the Week

LATHAM, N.Y. – Katharine Costello of Penn State Abington and Erika Shepard of Keuka College have been named North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) women’s volleyball Players of the Week.    

Katharine Costello (New Hope, Pa.) helped the Nittany Lions to their first NEAC win of the season by defeating Penn State Berks 3-1. Against Berks, Costello had 24 of Abington's 38 kills and racked up 17 digs. The freshman had 15 kills and 19 digs against the Notre Dame University of Maryland. Earlier in the week, Costello led Abington in kills against NEAC opponent Penn State Harrisburg with 18. Over two conference games, the freshman had 42 kills and 27 digs, along with two blocks and two aces. For the week, Costello averaged 4.38 kills per set, 3.54 digs per set, recorded three double-doubles of kills and digs while also accounting for 63.5 points.

Erika Shepard (San Diego, Calif.) was named Defensive Player of the Week after averaging 4.17 digs per set and adding 10 aces from the service line for Keuka. The senior recorded 16 digs and six aces in the Wolves’ sweep of SUNY Cobleskill. Shepard added 12 digs and three blocks in a 3-1 loss to Houghton.


The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has 12 NCAA Division III member institutions which include: Cazenovia College, Gallaudet University, Keuka College, Lancaster Bible College, Morrisville State, Penn College, Penn State Abington, Penn State Berks, Penn State Harrisburg, SUNY Cobleskill, SUNY Poly, and Wells College.
