2019 NEAC Men's Cross Country Preseason Preview

LATHAM, N.Y. - After winning its first North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) crown in 2018, Lancaster Bible will aim to remain the leader of the pack during the 2019 campaign that begins this weekend. Among the 11 teams in the league is Penn State Harrisburg, with the Lions returning to the NEAC from the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC). At the conclusion of the regular season, all 11 teams will compete in the 2019 NEAC Men's Cross Country Championship on November 2 hosted by SUNY Cobleskill.

Cazenovia College
Head Coach: Bill Houser, 7th season
2018-19 Postseason: N/A
Key Returners/Runners to Watch: Tyler Dellavechia
Key Losses: None
Coach's Season Outlook: 2019 is a rebuilding season after a tough 2018 season. We will be focusing primarily on individual gains and best times and rebuilding to a more competitive team for the 2020 season.

Gallaudet University
Head Coach: Byron Moore, 6th season

Coach's Season Outlook:
Gallaudet will field a young men's cross country team this fall. Senior Dalton Attanasi will be the veteran leader along with sophomores Jared Spinale and Liam Painter. Coach Moore hopes several of his recruits will make an immediate impact as GU begins the 2019 season.

Keuka College
Head Coach: Kyle Dacey, 2nd season

Coach's Season Outlook:
Keuka College will look to continue to grow under second-year coach Kyle Dacey. The Wolves return freshman Logan Holthouse who led Keuka with a 17th place finish at the conference championship last season

Lancaster Bible
Head Coach:
Ryan Gehman, 3rd season
2018-19 Postseason:
1st out of 11 teams at NEAC Championships, 26th out of 52 teams at NCAA Mid-East Regional

Tanner Krob, Isaac Facey, Richard Haines
Coach's Season Outlook:
Lancaster Bible returns four runners from last season's NEAC Championship squad, including NEAC Men's Individual Champion Abenezer Abebe. Fellow sophomore Thatcher Krob (2nd at NEAC Championships) also returns, as does Stephen Marshall who earned a 19th place finish at last season's NEAC Championships. The Chargers will look to peak at the end of the season once again, and should have a strong squad.

Morrisville State
Head Coach:

Coach's Season Outlook:
Some new faces will be in our top five runners until everyone gets back in racing shape. Freshman Peyton Jones will lead the team with sophomore Derek Hutchings, and freshman Toby Salisbury looking to close the gap. With a healthy group, we should move up in the NEAC standings at the end of the season. Looking for the men to have an average team time under 30:00 for the 8k.

Penn College

Matt Leiby and Jonah Isaacson

Josh Velez and Thomas Runner

Young team, but we will still be competitive.

Penn State Abington
Head Coach:

7th Place at NEAC Championship, 44th place finish at NCAA Regional

Ben Hoyer and Greg Gallagher

Coach's Season Outlook:
We look to improve our 7th place team finish last year at Conference Championships. Ben Hoyer should be among the leaders in the league, finishing fourth last year. If we can get a few closer to him and get our fifth man in early, we should surprise some teams.

Penn State Berks
Head Coach: Katie Scheetz-Jones, 8th Season

The men's team is deep with experience. The largest group of four-year senior runners we have had at Berks is looking to make an impact. Pair them with the six new freshmen and we are hoping to break into the top three this year.

Penn State Harrisburg

Coach's Season Outlook:
Penn State Harrisburg returns to the NEAC for the 2019 season after five years of competition in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC). The Lions will look to top returners in junior Mekael Kassu and sophomore Dominick Hogans for leadership this fall. The season’s success will depend on the duo’s improvement combined with contributions from this year’s newcomers. “We are excited to return to the NEAC for cross country and are eager to showcase our talents,” said head coach Danielle Lynch regarding the upcoming campaign.

SUNY Cobleskill

With five returning lettermen and seven newcomers the Fighting Tigers will look to improve on the 2018 fourth place finish at the NEAC Championships.
