Keuka College, Penn State Berks Ready for NEAC Women's Soccer Finals

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The two teams who finished the regular season unbeaten in conference play will meet on Sunday to determine a champion after Keuka College and Penn State Berks picked up wins in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Women’s Soccer Semifinals on Saturday.

When the two teams met earlier this fall, the Wolves and the Nittany Lions played to a 0-0 tie. The rematch takes place Sunday at 1 p.m. at Keuka College with the winner receiving an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Tournament.

Two goals in the first half was all Keuka College needed to earn a win in the NEAC Semifinals against Cazenovia College and advance to Sunday’s championship game. Morgan Fuller (Byron, N.Y.) put the Wolves on the board with an unassisted goal at 25:10 before Julia Oglesby (Norwich, N.Y.) buried a header at 40:45 to make it a 2-0 game at halftime. Cazenovia College quieted the Wolves’ offense in the second half with goalkeeper Caitlin Kelleher (Schuylerville, N.Y.) making four saves in the final 45 minutes but the Wildcats’ offense couldn’t find a way to break through. Kelleher finished with six stops while Keuka College goalie Jessica Pegg (Rochester, N.Y.) recorded seven saves in the win. Cazenovia wraps up a solid season with a 12-6-1 record while Keuka College improves to 13-3-1 overall.

Penn State Berks wasted no time in the second semifinal matchup with senior Shelby Baker (Mount Laurel, N.J.) knocking in a loose ball with just 2:59 off the clock to give the Nittany Lions an early lead. NEAC Player of the Year Caitlin Golden (Lumberton, N.J.) added the next two to give Berks a 3-0 edge heading into halftime. Goals from Emily Clapper (Lancaster, Pa.) and Alexis Schoener (Fleetwood, Pa.) early in the second half put the game away and secured the defending champions a spot in Sunday’s NEAC Final. Baker, Clapper and Schoener each tallied a goal and an assist in the win. Despite suffering the loss, Penn College goalkeeper Taylor Gonzales (Lititz, Pa.) finished the day with 11 saves. With the win, Penn State Berks sits at 14-3-2 overall. Penn College closes out the year at 12-8-0.
